On this project, Campbell Spellicy was a consultant to CRG Architects, providing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services. The project included a renovation of approximately 2,000 sq. ft. of the existing Fine Arts Building as well as an approximately 800 sq. ft. addition, which houses the College’s new painting studio.

With Campbell Spellicy’s assistance, St. Johns River State College (SJRSC) had determined that their existing art classrooms were not being properly ventilated per current codes and desired to improve their facilities. After much brainstorming and many proposed solutions, the owner decided to expand the building to create a new painting studio with dedicated HVAC and exhaust systems and free up their existing building and systems to better meet their other needs.

As part of the project, Campbell Spellicy provided all new LED lighting systems for the classroom spaces, including the display and accent lighting for the painting studio, a student gallery space, and an existing drawing classroom. New high-efficiency HVAC systems were provided for the addition and the existing systems were updated with increased controllability and variability to react in real-time to changes in usage and occupancy.

As with all of our projects, we loved this project because of what it allows the end-users to achieve. SJRSC’s Arts program is renowned, and this new facility will only serve to enhance that reputation and increase the potential of the program. We were thrilled for the opportunity to assist the college in achieving this goal, and can’t wait to see what their students create.
